MANAGING THE MOOD

Extreme mood changes and difficulty focusing on daily tasks can be inhibiting or overwhelming. Bipolar Disorder is associated with periods of major depression and/or hypomania or mania.

Bipolar Disorder is classfied into two main types, each with varying levels of depressive and manic episodes. Generally associated with genetics the causes of bipolar disorder are still unknown.

Behaviour extends from the two extremes with the extreme highs (manic) often causing increased energy, overactivity, racing thoughts, rapid speech, lack of focus, irritability, decreased sleep and reckless behaviour. Extreme lows mirror depression symptoms with sleep difficulties, low energy, self-harm, trouble concentrating, lack in motivation and withdrawing socially.

HOW WE HELP

Treatment of bipolar disorder is centred around rebalancing the mind through long-term medication, psychological therapies and lifestyle changes.

While treatment does not stop the reoccurence of episodes, they can help individuals to manage their mental illness, reduce the frequency or intensity of the episodes and help to function on a daily basis.

Tailoring support to the individual can help manage potential secondary complications of bipolar including anxiety, heart and health conditions and substance abuse.

OUR PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Medical and psychological treatments are used together to treat bipolar, and when the right treatment is found life can be quite fulfilling. We can provide visits in-home to reduce discomfort and anxiety and help get ontop of symptoms.

Aside from these strategies, domestic help is available to assist around the home. This could include cleaning, shopping, garden maintenance or laundry.
